Ambassador of Germany to Ukraine Anka Feldhusen visited the prosthetics workshop provided by the Maltese Relief Service for the National Rehabilitation Center UNBROKEN project. Mrs. Ambassador inspected the workshop and met the team of the hospital where it operates. Recall that the implementation of this project was initiated and supported by the German Government.
In June, German Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach offered support in prosthetics for wounded Ukrainians. And today in Lviv this project has been implemented and people who suffered during the war are being fitted with prostheses.
The cost of the project is 1 million euros. The project involves the purchase of a mobile workshop from Ottobock with advanced prosthetics technologies and the training of Ukrainian specialists. The project was implemented with the financial support of the German Foreign Office.
Ambassador Anka Feldhusen inspected the workshop and met with those who quickly turned this idea into reality. “I really wanted to visit this project in Lviv, because from the first day of the full-scale war I knew that the issue of prosthetics would be very important. St. Panteleimon Hospital in Lviv, long-time prosthetics specialists, the Maltese Relief Service, the Unbroken project, and the financial support of the German government are working together to improve the lives of Ukrainians,” said Anka Feldhusen.
The Ambassador also stressed the importance of prosthetics: “From the first day of the war I knew that the issue of prosthetics would be very important. I have already seen it in 2014. I knew that Germany has modern technology, and I wanted to gather professionals, and today I see that everything has been successful.”
“We treated a lot of Ukrainian soldiers in Germany and provided them with modern prostheses. But such prostheses need to be repaired. If we talk about children, their prostheses need to be replaced in time. It is inconvenient to do all this in Germany. It is much better to do it in the country where you know the language and people,” Anka Feldhusen said.
According to the head of the Maltese Relief Service Pavlo Titko, thanks to this cooperation, the UNBROKEN project received a workshop for the manufacture of prostheses, all the necessary equipment, and components, as well as 200 prostheses.
The workshop operates on the territory of St. Panteleimon Hospital of the First Medical Association of Lviv. It consists of a container with equipment where prostheses are made, as well as a room where patients are fitted, and plaster negatives are made. They learn to use prostheses in the rehabilitation department.
