The Maltese Relief Service is implementing a special winter project to help people in near the frontline and frontline regions. The program has several vectors: winter emergency kits (for instance in case of a blackout), providing communities with generators, supplying food and hygiene kits, and restoring homes after enemy shelling.
In total, the winter program includes 2 000 winter kits, about 500 generators of various capacities, 2 000 hygiene kits, 8 000 food kits (from local producers), and 300 tons of construction materials for quick repairs of houses. All these items are sent daily to the Odesa, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, and Kharkiv regions.
“We are delivering construction materials to these regions to rebuild homes. We are providing help for 900 homes that were damaged by shelling. We are repairing roofs, isolating or replacing windows so that people can return to their homes as soon as possible,” says Oleksiy Poburko, Program Director of the Maltese Relief Service. “We have a vivid example in Zaporizhzhia. This city is constantly suffering from rocket attacks. Last Wednesday, 26 private houses were damaged after another attack, and the next day, thanks to our construction materials, we managed to quickly carry out priority repairs.” The project is being implemented in cooperation with our partners in Zaporizhzhia, and the work is being carried out by the municipal enterprise “Zaporizhremservis”.
To provide a backup source of electricity, the Malteser Relief Service is donating almost half a thousand generators with a total capacity of 4 megawatts to communities in near the frontline and frontline regions. We also provide hygiene and food kits to residents of these regions.
“We have already delivered hygiene kits to 2,000 families and plan to deliver another 10,000. We are also delivering food kits for 8,000 families consisting of local products from producers in the Lviv region. In this way, we want to help people in the frontline regions and support local businesses,” said Oleksiy Poburko, Program Director of the Maltese Relief Service.
In addition, 2000 families will receive winter kits consisting of a power bank with a solar panel, warm socks, dry food (which does not require cooking), LED flashlight, batteries, sleeping bag, and thermos. These items will help people living in critical conditions to survive the winter.
