Ukrainians have gone through the most difficult three months ever in Ukraine. Constant attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure by russian occupation forces have left millions of Ukrainians without electricity. Over the past three months, the Maltese Relief Service has been delivering generators to communities and social and critical infrastructure institutions where it was most needed.
In particular, thanks to the humanitarian campaign Nachbar in Not, the Embassy of Austria in Ukraine, funding from the Austrian Development Agency, and the support of Malteser International, 420 small generators were delivered to the settlements of the frontline regions. Residents of these villages and towns still live in extremely difficult and dangerous living conditions. Thanks to the generators, they are able to keep in touch with their families by charging their phones, staying up to date with the news, keeping warm, turning on electrical appliances and even ensuring the functioning of pumping stations in their settlements.
“Constant enemy shelling has left many Ukrainians without electricity and heat. That is why providing backup power sources to those people who have found themselves in extremely difficult conditions due to the war is one of the priority tasks of the Winter Program,” said Oleksiy Poburko, Program Manager of the Maltese Relief Service.
In addition, the Maltese Relief Service has also installed 6 powerful generators in modular towns for IDPs in the Lviv region, where hundreds of people have found shelter.
